Every time we become excited at a new Windows 11 feature, something happens that makes users regret upgrading to the new operating system. There have been complaints that it takes almost an hour for the Microsoft OS to start up lately, especially after the latest patches. If you’re having this issue, you may want to apply the optional build 22000.652 update KB5012643.
According to Microsoft’s patch notes, this new build update fixes several issues. The highlights are the non-security fixes, specifically remedying Windows 11 taking so long to load the password screen. While there aren’t many details on what caused the issue, there is mention that it affects Point of Sales terminals.
That may be why we and so many other users haven’t as yet experienced the Windows 11 start-up problem. Another concern is the mention of a memory leak with computers that are operating 24/7 without shutting down. Still, update KB5012643 for build 22000.652 is available for everyone across the board, whether or not you have the issue.
Surprisingly, we’re still not seeing a fix where the Windows 11 default apps are taking up so much storage. Sure, we have external and internal storage that goes well over the TB range for our beloved games, but it does impact performance for low-end PCs. One other aspect we note for the new patch is that some recovery discs made for the operating system will become unusable and ineffective after applying the update.
We recommend you work through every line of the patch notes to check how much it will affect your Windows 11 environment. There’s plenty of mention of resource impacts and multi-channeling, but for us, the fix for the lengthy starting up was the most significant.
